  1. Reserve online

    Book in under 3 minutes — no deposit required. Share your sizing details and we pull the right gear, tune it, set your bindings, and have everything staged before you arrive.

  2. Pick up your gear

    Walk in and your gear is ready. Pick up after 3 PM the day before, or the morning of your first day. Try your boots to confirm a good fit — we'll swap anything that doesn't feel right.

  3. Leave it overnight

    Store skis and boards with us overnight so you're not hauling gear back and forth each day. Need a different size? Stop by anytime and we'll swap it out.

Our story

Our 50th season on the mountain

  1. 1976

    Cottam's opens

    John Brooke and Barbara Cottam open their first ski shop in Taos.

  2. 2018

    The family sells

    After more than forty years, the Cottams sell the shops to Christy Sports.

  3. 2024

    R&R Sports takes over

    The shops run as Big Kahuna for two seasons.

  4. 2026

    The Cottam family is back

    For the 50th season, the family returns to own and run the shops. Doors reopen November 26, 2026.

FAQ

Common questions

Rentals

Do I need a reservation?
No, but it's the easy way to do it — especially on weekends and holidays. Reserve at least 24 hours ahead and your gear is sized, tuned, and staged before you arrive. Give your name, try your boots, and head for the lifts. No deposit, and you pay the same rate online or in the shop.
What comes with a rental package?
Ski packages come with skis, bindings, boots, and poles (optional on Child). Snowboard packages come with a board, bindings, and boots. Helmets are extra — add one for $15/day when you reserve. Forgot gloves or goggles? We carry those in the shop.
Can I bring my own boots?
Yes. Bring your own boots and we'll take $3 a day off your package price.
Do you offer group rates?
Yes, for groups of 15 or more. Call or text either shop and we'll put together a rate for your group.

Pickup & return

When do I pick up and return my gear?
Pick up after 3 PM the day before your rental starts — no extra charge. Return by 10 AM the day after your rental ends, to the shop you rented from.
Do you offer overnight storage?
Yes — overnight storage is free with every rental, at both shops. Leave your skis or board with us at the end of the day and they'll be racked and ready the next morning, so you're not hauling gear back to your condo or out to the parking lot.

Policies

What if my plans change?
No deposit to reserve online. Cancel with 48 hours' notice before pickup — call or text either shop.
What does equipment insurance cover?
Equipment insurance is $5/day. It covers damage to your rental gear for as long as you have it. It doesn't cover loss or theft.
